Two years from now a famous Nigerian Media Mogul Raymond Dokpesi will clock 70years.
Born on October 25th 1951 in Ibadan then the old Western region of Nigeria, Raymond Anthony Aleogho Dokpesi’s parents hailed from Agenebode, in the old Mid-western region, later Bendel State now Edo State.
Dokpesi was educated at the famous Loyola College in Ibadan, the Immaculate Conception College Benin city, the University of Benin Edo State and the University of Gdańsk in Poland, where he bagged his Doctorate degree in Marine Engineering. All with the support of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur a former Governor of Gongola State.
Dr. Raymond Dokpesi started as the personal assistant to Alhaji Bamaga Tukur one of the general manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority. He also served as a civil servant in the Federal Ministry of Transport under Alhaji Umaru Dikko and General Garba Wushishi. He later teamed up with the late Abiola to set up African Ocean Lines and helped to formulate the Nigerian shipping act Decree 1986 which created the sharing formula 40:20:20 for cargo between developed and developing countries.
However, High Chief, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi never forgot his first love, showbiz and entertainment. This can be traced back to his early days in secondary school when he was the pioneer member of Ozolua Playhouse, dancedrama group. He decided to put his dream to reality when he conceived the idea of starting a radio station during the Ibarahim Babaginda regime when the atmosphere was conducive enough due to the deregulation of broadcasting in Nigeria.
In 1994 he launched the first Nigerian private FM radio station RayPower. Two years later, he launched Africa Independent Television. Thus, becoming the pacesetter in the world of Nigeria media for the likes of Galaxy TV, Silverbird TV, MBI television, Rhythm FM etc.
His Station was also the first private television network in Nigeria and Africa’s first satellite Television station. AIT presence was felt On the 20th September 2003, in the United States. And is presently received in America, Mexico, the Caribbean,Europe and other countries in Africa.
Raymond singlehandedly ensure using his state-of-the-art Tv facilities that Nigeria secured FIFA nod to successfully hosted the U17 FIFA World Cup Nigeria 2009 when Nigeria won the Silver medal.
Daar Communications also played a major role in the Nation’s Successful hosting of the Nigeria ‘99 FIFA under 20 World Cup as well as the Abuja 2003 All Africa Games won by Nigeria for the first and only time to-date.
In 2006, Raymond Dokpesi singlehandedly paid for and broadcast live the Egypt 2006 Africa Cup of Nations from Cairo and Alexandria to Millions of Nigerians where The Super Eagles won a bronze medal.

- Established the first privately owned radio station Raypower FM in Nigeria.
- Pioneered Nigeria’s First global TV which was Africa’s first ever Satellite TV station.
- Established the first TV station to run 24-hour broadcasting in Nigeria.
- Launched the African Independent signals in the United States.
- Chairman of the Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria.
- Helped in the formulation of the Nigerian Shipping Policy Act(decree) of 1986.
- Political Ambition
- At one time Dokpesi was as the campaign manager to Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, which saw them occupied Gongola state government house. He also played same role during Alhaji Adamu Ciroma’s presidential campaign, the Bamanga Tukur’s presidential campaign in 1993 and Dr Peter Odili’s presidential campaign.
His doggedness saw him led to the formation of the South-South People Assembly (SSPA) an organisation that seeks to promote south-south people of Nigeria. In 2017, Dokpesi contested for the PDP National Chairmanship position but lost to Uche Secondus.
The Esomo of Weppa Wanno has received several awards personal and official on behalf of DAAR Communications Plc. He was also conferred with many traditional titles.
In his hometown,Dokpesi is Oghieumua and The Ezomo of Weppa Wanno of Edo State and also the Araba of Osoro Land Okpe. He was decorated during the Dr. Kwame NkrumahLeadership Award ceremony in Accra, and the Foundation for Excellence in Business Practice Geneva Switzerland, Dokpesi was praised for Daar communications rise to the top in Africa and contributions of Radio and Television station that has placed Nigeria on the world map.
Raymond Dokpesi has built schools for community and also offered scholarships to prospective students into tertiary institutions.
